Mike Riley showed up at Memorial Stadium on Saturday morning like he does the day after every Nebraska football game.
Riley told reporters as he entered the building that he didn’t have any news to share with them. He planned to watch film of Friday’s loss to Iowa, hoping to treat it as normal as possible.
But Saturday is anything but normal. A decision on Riley’s future is expected to come soon, and most predict Riley’s time in Lincoln will come to an end following his third season. But no official announcement had come as of early Saturday morning.
In the hours after Riley’s arrival, some of his assistants began showing up for work as well. All arrived at the facility by about 9:30 a.m.
Several Husker players began to show up around that same time as well. Tight end Tyler Hoppes told reporters players received a text that said to come to the stadium.
World-Herald staff writer Sam McKewon reported that a meeting between Riley and Athletic Director Bill Moos was expected to be held around 10 a.m.
