Woman pronounced dead after being found unresponsive in Sarpy County Jail cell

A 37-year-old woman who had been arrested on suspicion of drunken driving was pronounced dead after being found unresponsive in a booking area cell of the Sarpy County Jail.

Danielle R. Harbison, who had recently moved to Omaha from Freeberg, Illinois, was arrested shortly before 8 p.m. Saturday by Bellevue police, according to a statement from the Sarpy County Sheriff’s Office. Family members told investigators that Harbison had moved to Omaha about three weeks ago.

About 2 a.m., Harbison was found on the floor in a cell in the booking area, said Capt. Kevin Griger of the sheriff’s office. Jail personnel began CPR and an ambulance was called to take Harbison to Midlands Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

An autopsy was to be performed Sunday, Griger said. Nebraska law requires a grand jury investigation whenever anyone dies in the custody of law enforcement.
