OGALLALA, Nebraska — A Florida truck driver accused of causing a deadly pileup on Interstate 80 in July has pleaded not guilty.
Tony A. Weekly Jr., 53, made an appearance in Keith County District Court on Friday morning where he entered a not guilty plea to six counts of felony motor vehicle homicide and one misdemeanor count of reckless driving.
According to authorities, Weekly, of Baker, Florida, was distracted and failed to slow down at a construction zone on I-80 near Brule on July 31.
The resulting crash involved five vehicles. A family of five from Minnesota died at the scene and another individual died later of injuries caused by the accident. Five others were injured.
District Judge Richard Birch of North Platte set a follow-up hearing for Jan. 20. Weekly remains free on bail.
