Suspicious bag that led to evacuation of 3 buildings on University of Nebraska at Kearney campus found not to be a threat

KEARNEY — A suspicious bag found at the University of Nebraska at Kearney on Tuesday was found not to be a threat, UNK representatives said.

Three buildings on campus were evacuated Tuesday after a report of a suspicious bag near the Fine Arts Building.

The bag was found on the west side of the Fine Arts Building and reported to UNK police about 2:30 p.m., spokesperson Todd Gottula said.

No threat had been received, he said.

The all clear was given at 6:49 p.m., though events and classes scheduled for Tuesday evening remained canceled.

UNK faculty, staff and students were allowed to retrieve belongings from the evacuated buildings: the Health and Sports Center, Cushing Coliseum and the Fine Arts Building.

The Fine Arts Building evacuation forced UNK to cancel String Project Classes for grades 3 through 12, associate professor Noah Rogoff said.
