TECUMSEH – A staffer at the Tecumseh State Prison faces felony charges in Johnson County on allegations that she passed letters to an inmate.
Janet M. Yates, 54, of Beatrice is scheduled for a hearing in Johnson County Court on April 26 on a charge of unlawful acts by a corrections employee.
Online court records say Yates received a letter intended for her from inmate John Fair and replied with a letter three days later. The state alleges up to four letters were exchanged by sliding them through the crack of the inmate’s cell door without authorization of the prison warden.
Investigators say the letters did not pertain to prison business. Yates
Fair, 40, is serving a sentence of 40 to 60 years for second degree murder in Lancaster County.
