Omaha police arrest 14-year-old, 15-year-old in slaying of Zachary Parker, 17

Omaha police have arrested two teenagers in the weekend slaying of 17-year-old Zachary Parker.

A 14-year-old boy was booked Tuesday into the Douglas County Youth Center on one count of first-degree Murder, two counts of attempted first-degree murder and three counts of use of a weapon to commit a felony. And a 15-year-old boy was booked on one count of first-degree murder and one count of use of a weapon to commit a felony.

Parker died Sunday after he was taken to the Nebraska Medical Center. Devon Darnell, also 17, was treated at the hospital and released. Police said he had been shot in the arm.

The two were shot about 5 p.m. Sunday near 25th Street and Crown Point Avenue, police said.

Parker and Darnell drove south about 3½ miles before pulling into the driveway of Blackburn High School, 2601 Hamilton St., where police were called. They may have been headed to the emergency room at the Creighton University Medical Center-University Campus, a few blocks farther south at 24th and Cuming Streets.

Both teens were taken via ambulance to the Nebraska Medical Center for treatment, with CPR underway for Parker.

A man who lives near 25th and Crown Point said he heard three shots.

Parker was a junior at North High School, an Omaha Public Schools spokeswoman said. He had enrolled about a month ago from outside the district.
