NEBRASKA CITY, NE – Cleaning out the press box, organizing the dugouts, prepping the field and managing the bullpens. Final preparations are being made for the 2017 Class B Junior Legion State Baseball Tournament July 15-19 at Clemmy Holmes Field in Nebraska City.
The Post 8 Juniors earned their way into the state tournament by defeating Auburn, 7-0 on Tuesday in the Area 1 Tournament Championship. Whatever the result would have been, they were a lock to play at state, because they are the host team.
Head Coach Bladen Bales says the Nebraska City Baseball Association bids to host the state tournament every chance they get for not only home field advantage, but for what it can do for the community.
“A lot of junior teams need rides from their parents, so it brings their parents in and the parents got to stay. Our community benefits from that. People are hopefully going to the pool and going to other stores around town and businesses. It’s just great all-around for everybody here in the community.”
Nebraska City will play in the final game of the day on Saturday night. The Post 8 Juniors square-off against the Area 7 champion Alliance at 8 p.m. The game will be broadcast on B103 (103.1 FM, B103.fm and the B103 app).
Auburn, Aurora, Bennington, Springfield, Waverly and Wayne are the six other teams competing in the tournament.
