A Carter Lake man who was arrested in November after a boy said the man was torturing squirrels and beating him was arrested Monday night accused of unlawful possession of explosives.
The latest charge comes after a search of his home turned up hundreds of pounds of gunpowder, more than 60 firearms, smoke grenades, rocket-propelled signal flares and dozens of containers with ammunition, according to police.
Greg Kuchera, 54, was ordered Tuesday to be held at the Pottawattamie County Jail on $20,000 bail. Unlawful possession of explosives is a felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison if convicted.
Kuchera is a convicted felon under Iowa Code and is prohibited from possessing firearms.
