Aubrey Trail expected to plead guilty to fraud charges next week

LINCOLN — Aubrey Trail, a person of interest in the death of Lincoln store clerk Sydney Loofe, is expected to enter a guilty plea to unrelated federal fraud charges next week.

Last week, Trail had requested a hearing to change his plea from not guilty. He was scheduled to be in U.S. District Court today, but the hearing was postponed at his request until April 5.

Federal indictments allege that Trail, 51, and his 23-year-old girlfriend, Bailey Boswell, scammed a Kansas couple out of $400,000 in a joint scheme to purchase a purported rare gold coin.

Trail, in phone calls to reporters, has claimed responsibility for Loofe’s death but has maintained that it was accidental.

Loofe, 24, disappeared Nov. 16 after arranging a date with Boswell online. An FBI spokesman has said the investigation into the death is continuing.
