Five people were injured Tuesday morning in northwest Omaha when an SUV struck a coffee shop’s small, kiosk-like building.
The crash occurred around 9:45 a.m. just east of 132nd Street and West Maple Road when the vehicle struck the Crane Coffee drive-through, brick building situated in a parking lot.
Four of the five people who were injured are Crane Coffee employees, said Omaha Police Sgt. Doug Klein.
Two people were taken to Creighton University Medical Center-Bergan Mercy in what rescue squad personnel at the scene considered critical condition. Two others were taken to the same hospital in serious condition. The condition of the fifth person was not known late Tuesday morning.
Klein said the SUV was eastbound on West Maple when it veered to the right, went onto a frontage road and struck the small building.
No tire marks indicating braking were evident outside the building.
Officials from OPPD and MUD and a City of Omaha structural engineer were dispatched to the site by authorities at the crash scene.
Some eastbound motorists were driving through a part of the Eagle Run Golf Course to avoid congestion at the location.
