William Robert “Bob” Thompson, age 90 of Beatrice passed away on September 7, 2017 at the Beatrice Community Hospital. He was born in Norway, Kansas on August 5, 1927 to Lester E. and Alice (Scott) Thompson. He was a graduate of Scandia High School in Scandia, Kansas. Bob served in the United States Army during the Korean War from 1950 to 1952 and was stationed in Germany. Bob married Sue Reed on May 5, 1957. To this union, three children were born: Beth, Amy, and Ron. He married Belva Allerheiligen on October 6, 2002. Bob worked for Reece Construction in Scandia, Kansas. He then worked as a construction supervisor for Behrens Construction, and graded roads for the Blakely township from 1996 until spring of 2017. He was a member of Westside Baptist Church and a past member of the Elks, American Legion Post 27 in Beatrice, and the VFW. He enjoyed blading roads, golfing, trips to the casino, traveling, dancing, socializing at coffee and card parties, and watching KU basketball. Above all, Bob loved his family.
Survivors include his wife, Belva Thompson; children, Beth Sederberg and husband Dave of Beatrice, Amy Kieffer and husband Scott of Lincoln, and Ron Thompson and wife Jami Jo of Norfolk; grandchildren, Greg (Amy) Sederberg, Matt Sederberg, Jayme Sederberg, Katie Kieffer, Jill Kieffer, Nick (Samantha) Thompson, and Garrett Thompson; great grandsons, Gabriel Geiser, and Owen and Theo Sederberg; stepdaughters, Marlene Penner and husband Dick of Beatrice, Connie Winebarger and husband Scott of North Carolina, and Lori Grabouski and husband Mike of Beatrice; sisters, Audrey Morehead, Rose Nondorf, and Betty Melby; many nieces and nephews and a host of extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Sue Thompson; brother, Max Thompson; sister, Patsy Thompson; and granddaughter, Dana Sederberg.
Funeral services will be 10:30 AM, Wednesday, September 13, 2017 at the Westside Baptist Church with Jon Palmquist officiating. A family prayer service will begin at 10:15 AM. Burial will be at the Evergreen Home Cemetery with military honors being rendered by American Legion Post 27 of Beatrice and the United States Army. The body will lie in state on Tuesday from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM with the family greeting relatives and friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, and at the church one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.
