Roger Daubendiek

Roger F. Daubendiek, 77, of Pickrell, went to be with his Heavenly Father Saturday night, December 15, 2018 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on July 15, 1941 at Beatrice, graduated from Filley High School in 1959, and served in the Nebraska National Guard. He married Betty Johnson on June 23, 1963 at Zion Lutheran Church of rural Pickrell. He was a long-time area farmer, raised cattle, was an NC+ seed dealer for many years, and worked at the local sale barns. Roger was a member of Zion Lutheran Church of rural Pickrell where he served on the Park Board, Parish Ed Board, and Church Council. He was instrumental in coordinating the annual church soup fund raiser and evening entertainment and had been a member of the Men’s Choir. He enjoyed bowling, his daily coffee group, all sports – especially the Huskers, Chiefs, and Royals, and deeply cherished spending time with his granddaughter.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Daubendiek of Pickrell; two daughters, Annette Daubendiek of Olathe, KS, and Jill (Scott) Nelson of Filley; granddaughter Megan Nelson; brother, Bruce (Elizabeth) Daubendiek of Beatrice; sister, Joyce (Robert) Harms of Pickrell; mother-in-law, Angeline Johnson of Beatrice; sisters-in-law, Carol (Craig) Keller Bloodworth of Omaha and Connie (Kim) Thornburg of Pickrell; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Marie Zimmerman Daubendiek; father-in-law, Walter Johnson; brother-in-law, Roger Keller.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Thursday, December 20, 2018, at Zion Lutheran Church of rural Pickrell with Pastor Jerry Gilbreath officiating. Burial will be at the Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery of rural Pickrell. A family prayer service will be held at 1:45 P.M. on Thursday at the church. A memorial has been established to the family’s choice with Arnold and Delores Baehr in charge. The body will lie in state at the Fox Funeral Home on Wednesday from 8:00 A.M. until 8:00 P.M. and then one hour preceding the service at the church on Thursday. Fox Funeral Home of Beatrice is in charge of the arrangements.
