Mary Lucille Lovitt passed away late Friday afternoon on October 5, 2018. She was in her home surrounded by her children in the village of Crab Orchard, Nebraska where she lived for ninety-seven years. She was born August 28, 1921 to Lee and Christina (Craney) Truscott on a farm northeast of Crab Orchard, Nebraska.
Mary Lucille was a pillar in the community. She graduated from Sterling High School in 1939. She attended the teaching program at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln in the 1930’s and moved home to teach in a country school house. She married Scott Lovitt on Dec. 26, 1944, and helped support the family farm. In 1965 she began working as a nurse at the Johnson County Hospital, retiring 28 years later.
In addition to her career, Mary Lucille was active in the community. She was a proud member and officer of the Women’s American Legion Auxiliary. She also served as Village Clerk of Crab Orchard until June 30, 2018. As a devout Catholic, she attended St. Margaret’s Catholic Church in Crab Orchard and is currently a member of St. Andrew’s Parish in Tecumseh. She was involved with various church functions. Mary Lucille was the recipient of numerous professional and community awards.
Above all, Mary Lucille was a loving mother, aunt, friend, and community member. She was quick to smile and laugh. She was endlessly generous and loving to all.
