Irene Norris Breunsbach, age 97, of Wymore went to be with Jesus on March 13, 2018. She was born, Nellie Irene Norris, on December 21, 1920 to Charles and Plura (Brogan) Norris at the family farm east of Wymore. Irene attended Sand Cut School through 8th grade – walking 2 ½ miles each day. She attended Wymore High School graduating with the class of 1938.
After graduation, Irene stayed on the family farm until she married William Merle Breunsbach on November 3, 1941. She followed her husband during his years in the Army until he went overseas. She then returned to Wymore and worked at Beckmon AGA store and dress shop. Upon Merle’s return, the couple lived in Wymore, was transferred to Lincoln, and later returned to the family farm near Liberty with their two sons, Bill and Brad. The family attended the Liberty Congregational Church where Irene was Sunday School Superintendent and teacher, a Bible School helper each year, and a member of the Ladies Circle Society. Irene and Merle owned and operated the Burger Bar in Wymore from 1969 to 1979. They moved to Wymore and joined the Wymore Church of Christ. Her hobbies included quilting and spending time with her family. She was active in Eastern Star. She was a member and/or held office in the Liberty Loyal Chapter OES and the Violet Chapter OES in Wymore. She was assistant Grand Matron of the Nebraska Grand Chapter OES in 1983. Irene was also a 60-year member of American Legion Auxiliary.
Irene is survived by her sons, Bill Breunsbach, and Brad Breunsbach and wife Kalynne; four grandchildren, Dondi Reinke and husband Tim, Alison Simonsen, Whitney Cernik and husband Brent, and Eric Rodewald; great grandchildren, Max and Owen Simonsen, William and Rose Cernik, Cody Colson, Angela and Christopher Whitaker, and Sammie, Lanee and Breanna Reinke; many nieces and nephews; and a host of extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Merle (2009), her parents, brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday, March 19, 2018 at the Wymore Church of Christ with Clayton Lundstedt officiating. A family prayer service will begin at 10:15. Burial will take place at the Blue Springs Cemetery. The body will lie in state at the Laughlin-Hoevet Funeral Home in Wymore on Sunday, March 18, 2018 from 1:00 PM to 9:00 PM with the family greeting relatives and friends from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM, and in state one hour prior to the service Monday.
