Harold (Harry) Jurgens, 76 of Filley passed away at Gold Crest Retirement Center in Adams on January 7, 2018. He was born on September 29, 1941 in rural Filley, and was later baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church of rural Pickrell. He attended Olney Rural Elementary School and graduated from Filley High School in 1959. He served with the Army National Guard until 1963. Harry married Leanna (Ideus) Jurgens in 1964 and raised four children north of Filley prior to their divorce. He was a life-long farmer and a hard worker with numerous second jobs including Jurgens Oil of Filley, Hoover Tote Systems of Beatrice, Constructors Inc. of Lincoln, and most recently Behrens Construction of Adams. He was a member of the American Lutheran Church of Filley. Harry enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, playing baseball in his youth, fishing, hunting and lending a helping hand to just about anyone.
Survivors include three daughters, Lynette Jurgens and husband Doug DuBose of Palm Beach Gardens, FL, Janelle Jampole and husband Paul of Woodbridge, VA and Carol Teggart and husband Phil of Papillion; one son, Steve Jurgens and wife Dawn of Filley; 12 grandchildren, Derek and Craig Zimmerman, Trey Jurgens, Shane, Shelby and Nolan Jampole, Callie Higgins and husband Jim, Taylor, Silas, Caryss and True Jurgens and Helena Teggart; two great-grandchildren, Mathias and Jediah Higgins; one brother, Ernest Jurgens and wife Janice; two sisters, Alice Schlake and husband Leland, Lois Frohman; two aunts, Carline Mencl and Ina Jurgens; several nieces, nephews and other family members. He was preceded in death by his parents, P.J. (Peter John) and Tena Jurgens; one grandson, Isaiah Jurgens; two sisters and brother-in-law, Arlene Stevens and husband Ehme, Marian Bigalk; one brother-in-law, Larry Frohman.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, January 13, 2018 at the American Lutheran Church of Filley with Pastor LuRae Hallstrom officiating. Burial will be in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery of rural Pickrell. A memorial has been established to the Fuller Park Ball Field of rural Pickrell. The body will lie in state at the Fox Funeral Home of Beatrice from 8:00 A.M. to 9:00 P.M. Friday and at the church one hour preceding the services on Saturday.
