H. Eldon Trauernicht, 92, of Lincoln, formerly of Beatrice, died Saturday morning, April 20, 2019 in Lincoln. He was born on February 17, 1927 at rural Barneston, graduated from Barneston High School and served in the U.S. Army from 1946 – 1948. He married Betty Mahloch on May 29, 1949 at St. John Lutheran Church of Beatrice and worked for Best Plumbing and Heating, the Lutheran Hospital, Pershing College, the City of Beatrice, and Southeast Community College. Eldon was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, the American Legion, Eagles, VFW, Elks, and Kiwanis Club all of Beatrice. He volunteered at the Community Food Pantry, Christian Heritage, the YMCA and was instrumental in the building of the Senior Center where he was very active. He also was the civil defense director for several years.
Survivors include two sons, Kenneth (Jana) Trauernicht and Ronald (Jodee) Trauernicht all of Lincoln; two daughters, Diane (Marvin) Baird of Gaffney, SC and Sandi (Mike) Waldron of Lincoln; eight grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; special friend, Blythe Taylor of Wymore; two sisters-in-law, Luetta Trauernicht and Margie Trauernicht both of Beatrice; brother-in-law, Roger (Monica) Mahloch of Charlottesville, Virginia; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Anna Hedding Trauernicht; his wife, Betty, who died on December 24, 2013; grandson, Andrew Struthers Trauernicht; brothers, Elmer (Mabel) Trauernicht, Harold (Maxine) Trauernicht, Clarence (Dorothy) Trauernicht, Donald Trauernicht, and William Trauernicht; parents-in-law, August, Sr. and Lillian Mahloch; brother-in-law, August Mahloch, Jr.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, April 25, 2019 at St. John Lutheran Church of Beatrice with Pastor Ernesto Medina and Pastor Leah Lawson officiating. Burial will be at the Evergreen Home Cemetery of Beatrice with military rites conducted by Bitting-Norman Post #27 of the Beatrice American Legion. A family prayer service will be held at 10:15 A.M. on Thursday in the chapel of the church. A memorial has been established to St. John Lutheran Church and the Community Food Pantry. The body will lie in state at the Fox Funeral Home from 8:00 A.M. until 8:00 P.M.
