Gerald E. Folkerts, 71, of Adams died at a Lincoln hospital on Monday, November 13, 2017. He was born February 7, 1946 at Beatrice, attended Littlejohn Country School at rural Adams and then attended and graduated from Adams High School in 1964. He attended Omaha Tech and Southeast Community College of Milford and received a degree in diesel technology. He married Marilyn Jobman at Emmanuel Lutheran Church of rural Beatrice on June 15, 1969. He worked for Abel Construction of Lincoln, Gage County Implement of Beatrice and was part-owner of Greenway Equipment of Beatrice. He started and was owner/operator of G & M Service of Adams. He was a life-long member of Zion Lutheran Church of rural Pickrell where he had served on the park board, property and management, church council and had sung with the Sounds of Zion. He had served on the Nemaha Township Board for 24 years and received the Nemaha Natural Resources District Conservation Award. He was also on the Firth Co-op Board, was a 4-H leader and was a sponsor for 4-H groups to Washington, D.C. He enjoyed flea markets and traveling especially overseas. He and his family had hosted foreign exchange students, one from Denmark and the other from Slovakia.
Survivors include his wife, Marilyn of Adams; one daughter Alisa (Matthew) Knipe of Auburn; two grandsons, Michael and Eric Knipe; four sisters, Irene (Thees) Busboom of Beatrice, Evelyn Kisling of Lincoln, Marian Heffley of Palm Springs, CA and Malinda (Dennis) Buel of Hickman; mother-in-law, Anna Jobman of Beatrice; two sisters-in-law, Marian (Lorentze) DeBuhr and Lynette Jurgens all of Beatrice; two brothers-in-law, Don (Malinda) Jobman and Wilmer Schlake all of Beatrice; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Sadie Ideus Folkerts; one son, Greg Folkerts; one sister, Eleanor Schlake.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, November 18, 2017 at Zion Lutheran Church of rural Pickrell with Pastor Jerry Gilbreath officiating. Burial will be in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery of rural Pickrell. A family prayer service will be held at 9:45 A.M. on Saturday at the church. A memorial has been established to the family’s choice with Myron Dorn, Leon Dorn and Wesley Dorn in charge. The body will lie in state at the Fox Funeral Home
