Florence May Beck was born June 28, 1927 at Nuckolls County, NE. to Henry William Beck & Ethel May (Bagley) Beck. She passed away March 17, 2017 at 89 years of age.

She grew up in Superior, NE. Later baptized & confirmed at Zion Evangelical Reformed Church (Gladstone, NE.) on May 25, 1958 where she was a member until 1999.

Oldest of seven, she attended South Ward School & Superior High School, graduating in 1946.
She began her jobs at Farmers Union Creamery (1944-1946), Hesteds (1946-1947), & then the Lincoln Telephone CO. in Superior where she worked from 1947 to 1948, then she transferred to Fairbury where she made her residence & worked until 1951. She worked in the office as clerk, typist & bookkeeper. It was then she met her first husband Marvin F. Herman. They were united in marriage on December 16, 1949 in Superior, and resided in rural Fairbury. To this union 3 children were born Donald, Marsha, & Linda. After Marvin’s death she later remarried Donald J. Bauer on September 2, 1999 & made her new residence in rural Gilead and joined Grace Lutheran Church in Fairbury, until her sudden health failure on February 13, 2017, hospitalizing her. She would eventually reside at the Heritage Care Center March 9th until her death March 17th.

She was active in the community as a member at Zion United Church of Christ (now Zion Countryside) where she served many offices & the Zion Women’s Fellowship, also Friendly Thursday Club, Sugar & Spice Extension Club, volunteering at the blood mobile. She enjoyed crocheting many afghans for all the family. She was well known for cake decorating skills, wedding & birthday cakes, & she taught many classes at the college & for 4-H kids. She loved baking her fabulous cinnamon rolls, kolaches & many specialty dishes. She enjoyed traveling to Colorado, Washington, & Kansas to visit family.

One of her greatest loves was her Grandchildren & Great-Grandchildren, & all her family, stating “I have a lot to live for”.

Survivors are Children: Donald & Rhonda of Wichita, KS., Marsha & Dan Schwan of Fairbury, Husband Donald Bauer of Hebron, Grandchildren & Great Grandchildren: Jaime & Kyle Kubik, Hailey & Gavin of Lincoln, Brent Schwan of Wellington, KS, Colby & Lindsey Schwan of Staplehurst, NE, Nicole Robinson, Alexis & Riley of Wichita, KS, Brad & Herman of Wichita, KS, Dennis & Katey Brown of Georgia, Dusty & Shelly Beachler, Connor & Emma of Waverly, NE, Amanda & Leon Hansmeier, Lily, & Elsa of Lincoln, Brothers: Howard & Lois Beck of NM, Harvey Beck of HI, Sisters: Marie & Bill Berry of WA, Mary & Russ Emich of CO, Sister-in-law: Berniece Bauer of Hebron, Numerous Nieces & Nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents Henry & Ethel Beck, infant brother Frances Beck, husband Marvin F. Herman, infant grandson Jeffrey A. Schwan, daughter Linda R. Brown, sisters & spouses Fern & Ike Shelburne, Dorothy & Bob Jensby, sister-in-law Betty Beck, Viola (Herman) Starck and husband Alvin, Marcene DeLellis, Harold (Doris) Herman, Richard (Dona) Herman, and brother-in-law Edward Bauer.

Services will be at 10:30 am Tuesday March 21, 2017 at Grace Lutheran Church in Fairbury. The family will greet friends Monday March 20th from 6:00 -7:30 pm at Gerdes-Meyer Funeral Home in Fairbury. Burial at Zion UCC Cemetery – Gladstone, NE. Memorials to Family’s Choice. Gerdes-Meyer Funeral Home in Fairbury is in charge of arrangements.
