Eleanor Joan “Pavlicek” Seggerman was born March 23rd, 1929 on the family farm near Reynolds, NE to Joe and Helen “Cacak” Pavlicek. Eleanor attended country school and graduated in 1946 from Fairbury High School. She began her teaching career after High School and then earned her Associates degree from Fairbury Junior College. Eleanor continued to take classes at Doane and UNL keeping her teaching certificate active. She taught at area schools including District 55, Fairbury Public Schools, St. Michael’s and Meridian Public Schools as both a full time and substitute teacher. Eleanor loved teaching and made lifelong connections with many of her students.
It was a very hot day on June 14, 1952 when Eleanor was united in marriage to Marvin Seggerman at the First United Presbyterian Church in Fairbury by the Reverend E. Ray Hegline. This union was blessed with two children, Marsha Elaine and Michael Joe. Soon after the marriage, Marvin was sent on active duty to Korea. He safely returned home in 1953 and they established their home on the farm near Gladstone. They retired from farming in 2002 and lived on the farm until 2010 when they moved into Fairbury. In 2017, Eleanor was thrilled to be voted the Valentine Queen of Cedarwood. Along with the King and her outgoing personality, she enjoyed welcoming the new residents. She was active delivering mail & faithfully visiting residents and numerous friends both at Gardenside and the hospital. She was also an avid sports fan, especially the Huskers and KC Royals.
Eleanor was a faithful and active member of the First United Presbyterian Church where she was ordained as an elder, active in Presbyterian women, book club and prayer groups. Eleanor was proud to serve as a key member of the building committee for the new Presbyterian Church.
Eleanor was a former member of the Pi Chapter; Delta Kappa Gamma teacher’s honorary and belonged to the Sugar and Spice Extension Club and Friendly Thursday club as well as several card clubs.
Eleanor was preceded in death by her husband Marvin, parents Joe and Helen Pavlicek, her beloved sister MaryAnn Muller, brother-in-law Bernard Muller, sister-in-law Lila Schoen and brother-in-law Alfred Schoen.
She is survived by her daughter Marsha (Mike) Baumfalk of rural Beatrice, son Michael (Sue) of Sioux City, Iowa, grandchildren Mindy Diller, Derek (Alysia) Diller, Mitchell Seggerman, Sydney Seggerman and Kari (Scott) Janssen, great-grandchildren Owen, Jake, Jesse, Claira, and Christopher and sister-in-law Lois (Bob) Yantz, and many nieces, nephews and numerous close friends.
Services will be Friday, June 29, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at the Presbyterian Church in Fairbury with Pastor Gail Cross officiating. The family will greet friends Thursday June 28th from 6 – 8 pm at Gerdes-Meyer Funeral Home. Burial is in the Fairbury Cemetery. Memorials to the Family’s Choice.
