Duane L. Dell, 83 years of age, of Beatrice passed away at the Gold Crest Retirement Center in Adams Monday morning, October 8, 2018. He was born on August 20, 1935 near Holmesville, NE to Robert Ernest and Zelma (Shaffer) Dell. Duane graduated from Filley High School and attended the University Of Nebraska, Lincoln. Duane and Iris Yvonne Birkin were married on November 23, 1953. Duane had been a member of the Nebraska National Guard unit in Beatrice for several years. He farmed near Filley until 1990, and then was employed as a supervisor at NEAPCO until retiring in 2000. He was a member of the Church of the Brethren near Holmesville and had been an usher, and had been a longtime 4-H leader. Duane enjoyed farming and raising cattle, gardening, watching Husker football, and spending time with his grandchildren and family. He collected model cars, old coins, and vintage Gage County 4-H ribbons.
Survivors include his children Rodney (Kris) Dell of Hastings, Sheri (Jim) Hibbert of Adams, Lori (RJ) Luthy of Valentine, and Kent Dell of DeWitt; 10 grandchildren Brenna Dell, Devin (Melissa) Dell, Amy (Ross) Pfingsten, Allison (Jake) Werger, Jordon (Chelsea) Luthy, Katie Luthy, Cody Luthy, Brady (Julie) Dell, Taylor (Kassidy) Dell, and Garrett (Kim) Dell; 26 great grandchildren; 2 sisters Verna (Wayne) Larsen of Beatrice and Modena Flesner of Clinton, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Iris; and brother Marion Dell.
Memorial services will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, October 13, 2018 at the Griffiths-Hovendick Chapel in Beatrice with Mary Beth Tuttle officiating. Inurnment at the Evergreen Home Cemetery. There will be no viewing as cremation has taken place, but a register book will be available Friday from 10:00-8:00 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in Duane’s memory to the family’s choice with the funeral home in charge.
