Donald C. Smith, 77 years of age, of DeWitt, NE passed away at the Wilber Care Center Sunday morning, April 16, 2017. He was born on December 8, 1939 at Belleville, KS to John and Anna Mae (Ball) Smith, and had graduated from Belleville High School. Don and Arlene Disney were married on April 10, 1960, and had lived a DeWitt for 53 years. Don had been employed by Dobson Brothers for road construction, and had been employed for 40 years at American Tool Company in DeWitt as a Heat Treat Operator, retiring in 2003. He had been a member of the United Methodist Church in DeWitt for over 50 years and had served on the board of trustees. He had been a member of the High Flyers Square Dancing Club in Lincoln and the Shirts and Skirts Square Dancing Club in Dorchester and other clubs, and included the entire family in these activities. Don enjoyed square dancing, working on cars, vegetable gardening, feeding birds, and CB radios.
Survivors include his wife Arlene L. (Disney) Smith; daughters Brenda L. Yott and special friend Jerry Beaudette of Stanton, NE and Charlene K. Durante and husband Steve of Odell; grandsons Tylor Jamison and wife Rachel, Forrest Jamison and wife Jamie, and Gene Yott Jr. and wife Sara; great grandchildren Nichaella, DeeRoy, MaryAnna, Nicole, Ashley, and Daniel; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins; brothers in law Ron Disney and wife Linda, Don Disney and wife Dollie, Leroy Disney and wife Judy, and Ron Simoneau; sisters on law Jinnie, Ruth, and Pauline Disney.. He was preceded in death by his parents John and Anna Mae (Ball) Smith; parents in law Ben and Marjorie Disney; 1 brother; son in law Eugene R. Yott Sr., brothers in law Bud, Norman, Bill, and Lyle Disney; and sisters in law Mabel Simoneau and Lavone Disney.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, April 24, 2017 at the United Methodist Church in DeWitt with Reverend Cathy Burchett and Chaplain Sharon Schuster officiating. Interment will be at a later date following cremation. The body will lie in state Sunday from 2-7:00 PM at the United Methodist Church in DeWitt with the family greeting friends and family from 2-4:00 PM, and at the church one hour preceding the service on Monday. A family prayer service will be held at 10:45 AM Monday at the church. A memorial has been established to the family’s choice with the funeral home in charge.
