Betty L. Stiles, 90 years of age, of Beatrice passed away at the Good Samaritan Center Tuesday morning, September 4, 2018. She was born on May 17, 1928 at Palmer, NE and graduated from Palmer High School and the St. Francis School of Nursing in Grand Island. Betty and Glen D. Stiles were married on March 17, 1951 and moved from Grand Island to Beatrice in 1960. She had been employed as a Registered Nurse at the Lutheran Hospital in Grand Island, an RN at the former Lutheran Hospital in Beatrice, and finished her nursing career as the Director of Nursing at the Beatrice State Developmental Center. She was a member of Christ Community Church; Red Hat Society; member and past board member of the VFW Auxiliary and the Hidden Acres Board. Betty enjoyed golfing, fishing, camping, trips to Wyoming, attending family activities, knitting and was an avid reader.
Survivors include her son Michael Stiles and wife Donitte of Lincoln; daughter Sue Sullivan and husband Gene of Beatrice; 6 grandchildren Michelle (Justin) Sitzmann, Christy (Richie) Ehlers, Jennifer Miller, Brian (Lauralee) Sullivan, Amy Sullivan, and Mark Sullivan; 18 great grandchildren; sisters in law Joyce Glynn and Audrey (Richard) Davis; several nieces and nephews. Betty was preceded in death by her parents Ernest and Doris (Silence) Glynn; husband Glen (1981); Step brother Lee Glynn; step sister in law Betty (Emory) Mathews; and grandson in law Brandon Miller.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 PM Friday, September 7, 2018 at Christ Community Church with Pastor Jack Magness officiating. Interment will be at the Evergreen Home Cemetery in Beatrice. Public visitation will be held Thursday from 1:00-8:00 at the Griffiths-Hovendick Chapel in Beatrice with the family greeting friends from 6:00-7:30, Friday from 9:00 AM-Noon, and at the church one hour preceding the service on Friday. A family prayer service will be held at 2:15 PM Friday at the church. A memorial has been established to the family’s choice with the funeral home in charge.
