Arnold W. Evers, 85, of Beatrice died Friday night, January 12, 2018 at a Lincoln hospital. He was born on July 7, 1932 at rural Cortland and attended Sunny Slope School near Filley. He served in the Army 24th Division in Artillery. He was stationed in Korea for 17 months during the Korean War. He married Darlene DeBuhr on January 8, 1956 at Zion Lutheran Church of rural Pickrell. They resided on a farm west of Filley where they raised five boys and operated the farm for 30 years. He also worked at BSDC for 30 years retiring early due to heart health issues. He was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church of rural Beatrice, the Lutheran Brotherhood, served on the church council, and held other church offices. He was a member of Bitting-Norman Post #27 of the American Legion and Geddes Thober Post #1077 of the VFW both of Beatrice. In 1993 they moved to Beatrice. Arnold enjoyed still being part of the farming operation by running errands for the boys. His love of farming took him down the country gravel roads to check the crops. He enjoyed spending time having coffee with the group, vacationing with his family, and playing cards with life-long friends. His sense of humor and wit reached many hearts with laughter. Recently Arnold was honored for his Army service by the Gage County Board of Supervisors.
