The Valley Heights Lady Mustangs got double-digit performances from Emma Toerber and Emma Yungeberg and came away with a 42 to 39 win over Marysville in Kansas High School basketball action on Tuesday evening.
Valley Heights got off to a slow start but heated up with a 15 point second quarter to take a 24 to 20 lead at the half.
The Lady Mustangs played most of the 4th quarter without their inside scoring threat as Emma Yungeberg fouled out of the contest with just over 7 minutes left to play She finished with 10 points on the night. Valley Heights got an offensive boost from Emma Toerber who had 12 points and Kennedy Stevenson who finished with 7 points. Marysville got a big night from Linda Franco who attacked the rim all night and scored 9 points on the evening and added several key plays on defense to keep the Lady Bulldogs in the contest. It wasn’t enough as Valley Heights held on for the 42 to 39 win to advance to 1 and 1 on the season.
