Tuesday Night Thunder Returns To Fairbury Tuesday

A year ago, over 5,000 fans and drivers packed the track at Jefferson County Speedway and featured some of the nation’s top midget car drivers flying around the 1/5-mile clay oval.

Tonight The USAC Midget series returns to Fairbury on Tuesday night for the second edition of “Tuesday Night Thunder.”

Thirty-three cars were at the track a year ago, and race promoter Cody Brewer expects about that same number this time.

The field will include defending event champion Chad Boat, reigning midget series champion Tanner Thorson, reigning USAC sprint champion Brady Bacon, and Christopher Bell, who is competing for a points championship on the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series.

One change is more seating. About 500 seats have been added after last year’s race was attended by a standing-room only crowd. The grandstand alone can seat 1,200.

“Tuesday Night Thunder” was created after officials with the Belleville Midget Nationals went searching for tracks close in proximity that could serve as support events leading up the big Belleville card, which is set for Friday and Saturday.

General-admission tickets are $20 for adults and $5 for children 10 and under. Qualifying begins at 7 p.m. and racing will follow at 7:30 p.m.

If you were thinking it is going to be a late night, don’t  Brewer said fans should expect a fast-paced show.

The first 200 fans thru the gates will get a souvenir and drivers will sign autographs at 5:20 p.m.

Tuesday’s card also will include the JayHusker non-wing micro sprint cars.
