FAIRBURY – The Tri County boys basketball pushed its winning streak to four in a row Thursday night with a 60-41 victory over Fairbury.
The game was close early with Tri County leading by just one after the first quarter and five at halftime, but the Trojans were able to pull away in the second half to cruise to a double digit win.
Three players finished in double figures for Tri County, paced by 21 points for Cole Siems. Creighton Niemeyer scored 16, including a perfect 8-for-8 at the free throw line and Riley Knust added 15. Chance Amundson led Fairbury with 13 points.
The victory gives Tri County its ninth win of the season, matching their win total from all of last season.
The girls game was a blowout from the beginning as Fairbury raced to a 56-28 triumph.
The Lady Jeffs opened the game on a 12-0 run and were up 20-1 at the end of the third quarter. The lead ballooned to as much as 32 by the end of the third quarter.
Jaelle Johnson powered Fairbury with 21 points, including a half court shot to end the third. Sara Huss added 13 points and eight rebounds. Kailey Weichel was Tri County’s top scorer with 12.
Up next for Fairbury will be a tough home matchup with Aurora on Friday. Tri County’s next competition will come in the A Division of the MUDECAS Tournament. The girls will face unbeaten Meridian Monday at 5 p.m. on KWBE. The boys will play Johnson-Brock Tuesday at 5 p.m. Both those games will be at the Beatrice City Auditorium.
