Stanton Defeats Diller-Odell, Wins First State Volleyball Program in School History

LINCOLN – For the first time ever, the Stanton Mustangs are state champions in volleyball.

The third-seeded Mustangs took down DIller-Odell in straight sets 25-22, 25-23, 25-20 at Bob Devaney Sports Center on Saturday.

They were led by Jessie Brandl with 21 kills. Bree Burtwhistle recorded 12 kills and 25 assists and Hannah Heppner had 13 kills for Stanton.

On the losing side Madison Jurgens had 18 kills, 12 digs and eight assists for the Griffins. Paige Vitosh had four kills and 22 assists.

Stanton and Diller-Odell lost in the state title game last year, as Diller-Odell fell to Johnson-Brock in the D-1 final, while the Mustangs lost to Hastings St. Cecillia in 2015.
