FRIEND, NE – The annual Turkey Creek relays took place at Friend High School on Tuesday.
Diller-Odell, Exeter-Milligan, Friend, Dorchester and several other schools took part.
Pawnee City won the meet for the boys with 111 points, while Lourdes Central Catholic was the team winner for the girls with 80 total points.
Notable area victories, first for the girls
Diller-Odell won the 3200 meter relay (11:45.90), while Exeter-Milligan won the distance medley (9:39.60). Dorchester meanwhile took first in the 4×60 shuttle hurdle (46.40).
In high jump, Diller-Odell’s Emily Swanson took first with a jump of 5 feet. Swanson also won pole vault at 5 feet-10 inches.
The Lady Griffins came in second as a team with 58 points.
In long jump, Friend’s Emma Niemeier won the event with a leap of 15 feet and 3.5 inches. Niemeier also took first in the triple jump at 32 feet-11.5 inches.
Area victories for the boys
Diller-Odell won both the 800 (1:41.70) and and 1600 meter relays (3:47.70). Friend won one of the distance medleys (7:49.10).
In pole vault, Diller-Odell’s Armando Jones won with a vault of 11 feet. In discus, the Griffins scored another victory. Austin Jurgens took first with a throw of 148 feet-9 inches.
The Griffins finished third as a team with 77 points.
Also worth noting from Tuesday
The Thayer Central girls’ track team took first at the Wilber-Clatonia Invitational. The Lady Titans also recently placed second as a team at the annual Coaches’ Legacy Meet in Hebron last week.
Thayer Central will stay in Hebron this week to host their own track and field invite. That gets underway at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday.
