FAIRBURY, NE – Two major local basketball tournaments, the Southern Nebraska and Pioneer Conference tournaments, both got underway Monday.

Pioneer Conference results from Monday in the girls’ bracket:

HTRS 27 Pawnee City 24. HTRS will now host No. 1 seed Sterling Tuesday at 3 p.m.

Diller-Odell defeated Lewiston. No final score was reported, but the Griffins will now play Lourdes Central Catholic at Pawnee City Tuesday at 4:30.

Tri County 38 Friend 30. The Trojans now face Falls City Sacred Heart Tuesday night at 6. That game will be played at HTRS.

One other girls game in the Pioneer tournament Tuesday, Southern plays Johnson-Brock at 3 p.m. at Pawnee City.

In the Pioneer Conference boys basketball tournament Monday:

No score reported from Lourdes Central Catholic and Lewiston. The winner of that game faces Falls City Sacred Heart Tuesday night at 7:30. That game is at HTRS High School.

There was also no score reported for Friend and HTRS from Monday. The winner of that game takes on Tri County Tuesday at 4:30. That game is at HTRS.

One boys final we can report from Monday in the Pioneer Conference tournament, Diller-Odell beat Pawnee City 50-35. The Griffins stay in Pawnee City to face Johnson Brock Tuesday night at 6 p.m.

Senior night for BNFF swimming:

BNFF hosted Lincoln Pius X. Pius won the boys meet 96-74, and Pius won the girls’ meet 111-55. That was the first loss of the year for the girls’ team (8-1).

In the boys’ meet, Beatrice senior Colton Starck won the 50-freestyle with a time of 23.25 seconds. Sophomore Hayden Stevens won diving with a score of 1.45.

In the girls’ meet, state qualifier and sophomore Mikwena Lierman won the 50-free style with a time of 25.52 seconds. BNFF also won the 200-freestyle relay with a time of 1:44.78. Sophomore Crystal Craft won the 100 breaststroke, clocking in at 1:14.75.

BNFF boys swimming has 10 seniors, while the girls’ team has six.
