PWG Holds Off Late Alma Rally to Advance at State

CENTRAL CITY – PWG is still alive at state after holding off a late rally on Monday.

Palmer-Wolbach-Greeley took down Alma 8-7 at Kernel Field on Monday evening to advance to the fourth day of the Class C Senior State Tournament.

PWG had an 8-1 lead heading into the fifth, but Alma would score two in the inning and find themselves trailing 8-3 entering the seventh. With the bases loaded, and two outs, Park Janicek (3-for-5, 3 RBI, R) cleared the bases with a three-run triple and represented the tying run, but PWG held on by retiring the next batter.

Hunter Reimers (2-for-4), Connor Wood (2-for-4, 2 R), Spencer Wichman (3-for-4, 2 R) and Kaden Reimers (3-for-4, RBI) all had multiple hits for PWG in the victory. Noah Neckoliczak came one batter short of a complete game, going 6 2/3 innings and striking out seven.

PWG will face Wilber at 8 PM on Tuesday in an elimination game. The contest will be broadcast live on NCN channel 30.1 and streamed online at
