BEATRICE – Cross country runners were looking for their second wind, trying to qualify for the state meet. Several area runners have done just that.
At the District B-2 Meet, Norris proved to be the top team there. The Titans runners tied for first place with Mount Michael Benedictine. Four Norris runners qualified in the top 15, as well: Joshua Starr (3rd), Garrison Gustin (5th), Dylan Lindstrom (9th) and Christopher Wieskamp (11th).
On the girls side, two Lady Titans runners are advancing on. Kelly Helmberger finished in eighth place and Hannah Susie qualified in 10th.
Two Beatrice Orangemen runners will be heading to state after their finish at the District B-3 Meet. Brayden Frerichs finished in fourth place and Dylan Diehl finished in 14th. Daniel Ortiz of Crete will also be running at state with a 15th place finish. Aurora won as a team.
The Lady Orange team will be moving on with a third place finish, holding off fourth place York by six points. The team features eighth place runner Veronica Pinkerton, 13th place Jamison Theye, as well as Natasha Leal, Josie Guernsey, Brady Achtemeier and Morgan Burenheide. Crete’s Maria Jose Garcia will also be going to state with a 15th place finish.
On the boy’s side, only one runner qualified in the area. Milford’s Zachary Danekas finished 11th overall in the District C-4 Meet. Milford’s team was 13 points short of qualifying with a fourth place finish.
On the girls side, in District C-3, two Fairbury Lady Jeffs runners will be advancing. Share Stall finished in fourth place and Emily Burkley placed seventh. Milford’s Ashley Kroese won the district as a Freshman.
The JCC Thunderbirds are sending two boys to the state meet. In District D-1, Samuel Saldivar and Gunnar Burger will be running. Saldivar finished fourth and Burger was 15th. Also qualifying in the area were Braden Kobza of Pawnee City (7th) and Riley Wehrer of Wilber-Clatonia (9th).
In girls action, the Wilber-Clatonia Lady Wolverines have qualified with a third place finish. Their team members include fourth place Mikayla Pecka, ninth place Victoria Lokken, as well as Karlie Cerveny, Summer Groteluschen, Logan Hayek and Harley Broz.
Also qualifying at the District D-1 Girls Meet were Aleisha McDonald of JCC (5th) and Haydyn Weise of Tri County (12th).
The Thayer Central runners are advancing on to the state meet. They placed second overall at the D-3 Meet. Aubrey Fangmeier placed 10th and Dylan Fischer was 11th. Other members on the team include Damian Stewart, Keegan Casey, Evan Fuglestad and Collin Fink.
One runner for Thayer Central’s girls team has moved on, as well. Kylie Pachta finished in 13th place.
