FALLS CITY, NE – Top-seed Nebraska City advanced to the Class B Area 1 Junior Legion Baseball Tournament semi-finals Saturday with a 10-1 win over Beatrice at Southeast Nebraska Communications Field in Falls City.
The Post 8 Juniors captured the lead with one out in the first inning on an RBI single from Garrett Bassinger.
Nebraska City added four runs in the third inning on a double by Bassinger, a double by Trent Fahey and a stolen base.
Bassinger also earned the win on the mound. He threw three shutout innings innings, allowing no hits and striking out seven. Quintin Holman threw three innings, as two relievers helped Nebraska City finish off the victory.
Nebraska City collected 11 hits. Bassinger and Dylan Knoell each collected multiple hits for Nebraska City. Bassinger went 3-for-4 at the plate with three RBIs.
The Post 8 Juniors (25-2) play Auburn in the Area B1 semi-finals Sunday at 4 p.m. Beatrice falls to an elimination game with a rematch with Falls City at 6:30 p.m. Sunday. Both games will be played in Falls City.
Falls City eliminates Fairbury
FALLS CITY, NE – The Falls City Junior American Legion Baseball team scored five runs in the bottom of the first inning and eliminated Fairbury, 12-4, in the consolation bracket of the Class B Area 1 Tournament Saturday night.
The Blue Storm added six more runs in the third inning on a double by Cade Schawang, a single by Kade Bredemeier and a single by Del Casteel.
Bredemeier threw a complete game at Southeast Nebraska Communications Field in Falls CIty. He allowed four runs, seven hits and struck out three.
Bredemeier and Casteel each collected multiple hits and Falls City finished with 10 total. Schawang and Casteel each drove in three runs.
The Blue Storm (10-13) will play Beatrice in another elimination game at 6:30 p.m. Sunday. Beatrice defeated Falls City in the first round, 5-2.
Fairbury had seven hits in their final game of the season.
