Doane fell to Midland 22-35 on Saturday.

CRETE – Midland outscored the Doane Football team, 22-3, in the 3rd quarter and came from behind to post a 35-22 win over the Tigers in Crete on Saturday. The loss dropped the Tigers to 4-4 on the season while Midland, receiving votes in the NAIA poll, moved to 7-2.

Game Highlights

  • Doane drove the field in their opening drive of the game, marching 64 yards on five plays. Joaquim Robinson (SO/Kearney, Neb.) scored his first collegiate touchdown as he was left uncovered in the end zone and Jack Kalina(JR/Papillion, Neb.) hit him with a pass of six yards.
  • Midland scored on their first possession as well with Garry Cannon finding Darrin Gentry for an 11-yard pass. The Warriors went for two-points and failed on their conversion attempt.
  • Doane looked poised to score on their next drive but a fumble at the 2-yard line kept the Tigers out of the end zone. On Midland’s first play from the 2-yard line, they fumbled the snap and Riley Homolka (SO/Wilber, Neb.) tackled Noah Oswald in the end zone for a safety to put the Tigers up 9-6 after the 1st quarter.
  • Midland scored a touchdown on four consecutive possessions in gaining the lead.
  • Doane’s final score came with 6:14 to play as Kalina connected with Travall Calvin.
