Marysville Boys Get Big Road Win In Overtime Shootout At Valley Heights

It was an offensive explosion from both The Marysville Bulldogs and The Valley Heights Mustangs in Kansas High School Basketball on Tuesday night. When the dust settled, Marysville came away with a hard fought 78 to 71 overtime win.
The game went back and forth as Valley Heights jumped out to an 18 to 14 lead after the first 8 minutes. The second quarter saw Marysville 6-1 Jr. Dalton Denner heated up from beyond the arc as he scored 15 of his 17 first-half points with 3 pointers. Valley Heights was looking for defensive answers as Marysville took a 48 to 47 lead into the halftime locker room.

The scoring stayed even throughout the second half as neither team was able to create more than a 2 point lead at any given time. Marysville had an opportunity to win the game in regulation but was turned away by a tough Valley Heights defensive effort. The game went into the extra 4 minute overtime period tied at 63.

Marysville Sr. Jakub Backus led the way in overtime hitting some key free throws down the stretch. He led all scorers on the night with 32 points. Marysville outscored Valley Heights 15 to 8 in overtime to get the 78 to 71 win. Dalton Denner hit 7 three-pointers and finished with 26 points for the Bulldogs. Valley Heights got 25 points from Trey Martin. Martin fouled out with 1:21 left to play in overtime. Both teams combined for 19 three-pointers in the contest.
