Lead slips away early for Auburn in loss to Crete

CRETE – Nate Mensik, Carson Stauffer, Owen Kuntz and Evan Richards all drove-in runs in the first inning and the Crete baseball team ran away with an 8-2 victory over Auburn on Thursday.

The Bulldogs (1-3) lost despite out-hitting the Cardinals (3-3), 9-8. Crete was led by Richards, Stauffer and AJ Page, who each finished with multiple hits.

Richards earned the win on the mound. He lasted three 1/3 innings, allowing eight hits and two runs while striking out one and walking one. Nate Hostetter threw three and two-thirds innings in relief.

Kyson Warner took the loss for Auburn. He lasted two and a third innings, allowing five hits and seven runs while striking out two.

Liam Raison went 3-3 at the dish with a run scored.

The Cardinals will be at Bennington on Saturday, while the Bulldogs host Omaha Central for a doubleheader.
