WAVERLY – A stellar defensive effort lifted the Beatrice girls to a 41-26 win over Crete at subdistricts on Monday.
The Lady Orange used a triangle-and-two zone to frustrate Crete’s leaders, Camry Moore and Morgan Maly, with great success. The Cardinals were able to manage just nine points in the first three quarters and trailed by 15 heading into the fourth.
The Crete offense found life in the final period, but was only able to close the gap to eight points as the free throw shooting of Michaela Jones and Addie Barnard helped Beatrice stay in front.
Jones led the way with 23 points in the game, including 10-for-14 at the line. Jayda Weyand paced Crete with all 10 of her points coming in the fourth quarter.
Beatrice moves on to Tuesday’s subdistrict final to face Norris, which upset top seed Waverly 37-36.
