WILBER – The Sacred Heart Lady Irish are two wins away from an automatic berth at the state tournament.
The Irish (rated #1 in D2) took down Lewiston 54-27 in the D2-1 subdistrict semi-finals at Wilber-Clatonia High School on Tuesday night.
Sacred Heart had four players in double-figures in the contest with Randee Witt leading the way with 12 points, going six for ten shooting. Seniors Lexi Barnes, Haylee Heits and Jade Hill all scored 11 points in the easy victory for FCSH.
The Lady Irish took a ten point lead after the first quarter, thanks to six points by Jade Hill in that quarter. Sacred Heart would keep their ten point lead into halftime and would then expand on it in the second half, outscoring Lewiston by 17 points in the half.
Cari Howell scored eight in the loss for the Tigers.
Falls City Sacred Heart will next face Dorchester in the subdistrict final, after the Longhorns upset #3 Exeter-Milligan on Tuesday.
If the Irish win, they’ll advance to the district final against either Humphrey St. Francis or Winside, next week.
If FCSH does fall over the next two games, they will still likely make state. The Irish are in 1st place in the NSAA Wild Card standings by a healthy margin.
