MILLIGAN, NE – Opportunistic plays and a willingness to gamble weren’t enough for Lourdes Central Catholic to overcome a powerhouse running game from Exeter-Milligan-Friend, and the Knights fell 48-12 Friday night to the hometown Bobcats.
L-C-C hung in gamely for most of the first three quarters, thanks to 101 rushing yards from Andrew Aldana, and 66 total yards from QB Colter Fulton. The Knights capitalized on big opportunities, recovering a muffed punt, fumble and 2nd-half-opening onside kick.
Down 28-12, Lourdes CC also made a big 4th-down stop in the 3rd quarter against the E-M-F offense, in a play that looked like it would turn the tide. But the ensuing drive sputtered, and when the Bobcats took over, their dominant running game salted away the victory with the final 20 points of the contest. All totaled, E-M-F racked up 267 yards on the ground, led by Edwen Baptista’s 112 yards and 3 TDs (one receiving).
The Knights fall to 1-2 on the year and are back home next Friday against Bruning-Davenport-Shickley.
