SIOUX CITY, Iowa – The 14th ranked Doane football team shook off last week’s upset loss to race past Briar Cliff 39-10 on Saturday.
After the Tigers failed to score on their first possession the defense forced a quick 3-and-out that resulted in a shanked punt by Briar Cliff. Quarterback Jack Shadley took advantage of the short field, needing just two plays to find Jacob Cornelius for a 21-yard touchdown to jump in front early.
The defense then forced another quick punt and Shadley again led a scoring drive, this time finding Drew Klein for an 11-yard touchdown.
Doane never looked back from that point, piling up 571 yards of total offense. Klein led the way with three catches for 53 yards and three touchdowns. Cornelius had four receptions for 69 yards and a touchdown and Kyle Jensen added 147 rushing yards and a score. The defense held Briar Cliff to 295 yards of offense with five sacks and two turnovers, including Cole Wiseman’s NAIA-leading sixth interception.
Doane improves to 4-1 on the season and returns to Crete for homecoming next week against Dordt.
