Johnson-Brock Begins State Title Defense Late Monday Night, Sets-Up Rematch with Knights

AUBURN, NE – The Johnson-Brock volleyball team began their state title defense with a sub-district tournament win over Tri County late Monday night at Auburn High School. The Eagles swept the Trojans, 3-0, in a match that got over after 10:00 p.m. at the Class D1-1 Tournament in Auburn.

Two earlier matches went all five sets. Tri County defeated Sterling in the first round, 3-2, and Lourdes Central Catholic beat Pawnee City 3-2.

The Knights’ win over the Indians sets up a rematch with Johnson-Brock in the D1-1 championship Tuesday night at Auburn High School.

The Eagles topped Nebraska City Lourdes on Oct. 6, 3-0.

Lourdes Central Catholic Athletic Director Joe Tynon says the Knights have nothing to loose against a tough Johnson-Brock squad.

“They’re number in D1, they’re also number 1 in power points, and they got a future Husker on their team. It’s one of those things when you go through it and play, we play them tough. We play them tough earlier in the year. It was a three-set match, but all games were 25-22.”

The winner advances to the district final on Thursday. First serve is set for 7:00 p.m.
