High school notes: Former NFL coach Dick Vermeil to speak at Nebraska Coaches Association clinic; Prep Classic lineup and more

Former NFL coach and commentator Dick Vermeil, who won Super Bowl XXXIV with the Rams, will be the keynote speaker July 25 at the Nebraska Coaches Association clinic.

Also scheduled to speak during the clinic July 25 to 27 are Division I coaches Matt Rogers (Creighton cross country), Lyndsey Oates (Northern Colorado volleyball) and Mark Branch (Wyoming wrestling).

Prep Classic lineup

Bellevue West will meet Denver East on Jan. 20 in the Nebraska Prep Classic basketball showcase at Ralston Arena.

Denver East’s top player is Division I point guard prospect Daylen Kountz, a 6-foot-2 senior who averaged 26.4 points for the Angels in 15 games.

Nebraska-Wyoming six-man

The sixth Nebraska-Wyoming Shootout six-man football game will be June 24 at Kaycee, which was Wyoming’s 2016 six-man champion. Wyoming leads the series 3-2, but Nebraska has won the past two meetings.

Around the state

» Lexington is considering leaving the Greater Nebraska Conference for the Central Conference. At the district’s board meeting Monday, Superintendent John Hakonson said there’s overall support for the move. The next step for the Minutemen is attending the Central’s August meeting, with a membership request needed by Oct. 31 to switch affiliations for 2018-19.

» Donn Kasner is the new athletic director at Omaha Skutt. The former teacher and coach at Millard South and Elkhorn South succeeds Jeremy Moore, Skutt’s new president.

» Grant Bruner of Gretna, a Nebraska Boys Athlete of the Year finalist, is signed with Washburn for football. His college was incorrectly mentioned on Tuesday.
