HANOVER – Both Hanover basketball teams stayed unbeaten Friday night, beating Centralia 42-37 in the girls game and 50-34 in the boys game.
Hanover had to come from behind in the girls game after being held scoreless in the second quarter to trail by 13 at halftime. They were able to surge back though, outscoring Centralia 16-2 in the final period.
Tianna Lohse led the charge by knocking down some clutch three pointers to finish the game with 12 points while Macy Doebele scored 19 to hand the Panthers their first loss of the season. Katie Glatczak powered the Centralia offense with 12 points.
The Hanover boys nearly blew the lead, but were able to put Centralia away with a big second half for Thomas Atkins.
The Wildcats entered the fourth quarter with an eight point lead, but Centralia went on a run to tie the game before Hanover pulled away again. Atkins provided a spark when he drove along the left baseline and rose up for a poster dunk over Kamble Haverkamp. The thunderous jam was the second of three dunks he put down in the game to lead all scorers with 19 points.
Carter Bruna added 13 points for Hanover. Daegan Steinlage led Centralia with 9 points and 18 rebounds.
With the seep both Hanover teams keep their perfect seasons in tact. Up next will be a matchup at home Tuesday against Valley Heights. Centralia will also be at home Tuesday hosting Clifton-Clyde.
