HAYS, KS – In a matchup of two Twin Valley League rivals, Hanover got the best of Centralia to head to the 1A-I Girls State Championship game.
Taking an 11 point lead into the break, the Lady Wildcats held off a late Lady Panther run to win, 58-57.
The combination of Riley and Macy Doebele proved to be a big factor in the victory. They each scored 14 points to go along with Ashton Jueneman’s 12.
It was only Centralia’s second loss of the year, with both coming to Hanover.
They will play #3 Olpe in the finals on Saturday at 4 p.m.
The Hanover boys will also be headed to the state finals.
They had no issues in their state semifinal showdown with #3 St. Francis.
Will Bruna had a huge day for the Wildcats, as he finished with 31 points. Michael Jueneman also added 18.
They will move on to the finals after a 64-44 win, and see #1 Montezuma-South Gray at 6:15 p.m.
The #3 Marysville Bulldogs also rolled in their state semifinal game in 3A. They won by 34 points over #7 Belle Plaine, 68-34.
They have to play the Cinderella team of the tournament, #8 Cheney. They have upset the number one and number four teams in the tournament so far.
The two will battle in the finals at 6:15 p.m. on Saturday.
