DILLER – Kolby Houlden hit pay dirt three times Friday night to help the Friend football team pick up a road win over Diller-Odell 36-14.
Friend got the scoring started on a one yard touchdown run by Edwen Baptista, but Diller-Odell answered with a two yard run by Christian McCown. Two minutes later McCown connected with Dylan Wolbert on a 63 yard touchdown pass to give the Griffins the lead, but Houlden returned the ensuing kick for a score to tie it back up at 14.
McCown left the game in the second quarter with a lower leg injury, causing the Diller-Odell offense to stall, and Houlden scored again on a one yard run in the to send the Bulldogs into halftime with a 22-14.
In the second half, Friend kept the ball on the ground to wear down the defense with Kyle Dickinson running for a 3 yard touchdown and Houlden striking again from 32 yards out. Houlden finished with 74 rush yards on 13 carries while Baptista ran 27 times for 105 yards.
The win pushes Friend to 5-1 on the season. They return home next week to face Weeping Water. Diller-Odell is now 3-3 with another tough game coming up on the road at Lourdes Central Catholic.
