Friend Knocks Off Meridian

DAYKIN – The Friend girls basketball team came from behind to pick up a big 41-36 road victory over Meridian on Thursday.

Meridian got out to a fast start and opened up a seven point lead at halftime. The Lady Bulldogs surged back in the second half though, going up by one just before the end of the third quarter. They wouldn’t give back the lead thanks to great free throw shooting as Raeleigh Menke made 10-of-10 at the line and Madison Zumpfe went 6-for-8.

Menke led all scorers in the game with 16 points while Zumpfe added 10 and 14 rebounds to push Friend’s win streak to six games. Erin Johnson paced Meridian with 15 points.

Friend cruised in the boys game 64-37, leading nearly the entire way.

Meridian was able to keep the game close into the third quarter before Friend pulled away to make it a double digit lead thanks to 10 third quarter points for Joran Teijema.

Darren Segner was the top scorer in the game with 21 points and eight rebounds. Teijema scored 18.

For Meridian, Tybor Smith had 15 points and Garrett Klipp had 12 points with 13 rebounds.

Friend will be on the road again Friday visiting Diller-Odell. Meridian will host Silver Lake on Friday.
