Freeman, Tri County, Exeter-Milligan amongst local teams to qualify for district finals

The NSAA announced its boys’ basketball district final pairings late Thursday night for Classes C and D.

In Class C2, No. 5 Tri County (19-5) is the 10-seed in district finals, and will face 7-seed Yutan (20-5) at Norris High School. The game will be on Monday evening at 7.

Tri County gave it a valiant effort, but fell to No. 1 ranked Sutton (23-2) in Thursday’s subdistrict final, 63-59. The game was played in Fairbury.

In Class B, the Norris Titans (12-13) qualified as the 14-seed in the Class B district finals, and will face 3-seed Omaha Roncalli Catholic (22-2) on Monday night at 6. Roncalli will host that game.

The Class B pairings were announced Wednesday.

Getting back to Class C2, Freeman (18-4) qualified as the 4-seed and will face 13-seed Howells-Dodge (17-9) on Monday night at 7. The game will be held at Malcolm High School, and will be carried live on 1450 KWBE.

Freeman handled local rival Southern, 68-33 in Thursday’s subdistrict final in Beatrice.

Ending in Class D2, Exeter-Milligan (20-4) is the 7-seed and will face 10-seed Giltner (15-9) on Monday night at 7 at Fillmore Central High School in Geneva. That game will be heard live on Ol’ Red 99.5.

The Timberwolves, who have now won eight straight games, defeated Diller-Odell, 52-38 in Thursday’s subdistrict final in Wilber.

The boys’ state basketball tournament takes place March 7-9 in Lincoln.
