FAIRBURY – The Fairbury senior legion baseball team had to come from behind more than once Tuesday night on their way to an 11-10 victory over Marysville in eight innings.
Marysville got on the board early when Jacob Latta, Jayton Haggard and Adam Lindhorst strung together three singles to take a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Fairbury answered in the third when Adam Wasserman drew a walk, took second on a passed ball then scored on an RBI single by Dawson DeBoer. Then Cayman DeBoer drove a home run to left center field to put Fairbury in front 3-2.
The runs came in bunches in the middle innings with Marysville scoring three in the top of the fourth and Fairbury putting up five in the bottom half to make it 8-5. Marysville then pushed across four more in the fifth to go up 9-8.
Fairbury tied it up when Cayman DeBoer reached base for the fourth time in the game then scored on a bunt by Zach Holes to make it 9-9. Both teams went scoreless in the seventh to force extra innings.
In the eighth, Latta and Haggard went down quickly, but Lindhorst launched a two out home run down the left field line to put Marysville in front 10-9.
Fairbury answered one more time in the bottom half. With one out and a man on first, Tanner Novotny scorched a single to put runners on the corners then stole second to get the winning run in scoring position. Holes then hit a line drive to right to bring both runners in and get the win.
Marysville will return home and prepare to host the Marysville Classic tournament this weekend. Fairbury will be right back at it Wednesday night hosting Wilber. That game will be televised on NCN21 with coverage beginning at 7:45 p.m.
