AURORA – High school cross country runners braved wet, muddy conditions Thursday with boys and girls running together at the Southern Nebraska Conference Meet.
In the girls race, Fairbury repeated as conference champs with six runners finishing in the top 15. Mikwena Lierman, Kacy Starck and Josephine Blatny finished third, fourth and fifth for the Lady Jeffs. Emily Burkly was seventh, Autumn Branson 12th and Erica Mosher 15th.
Milford had the second place girls team with four of the top nine finishers. Ashley Kroese took second place with Madelyn Mullet sixth, Ashleigh Baker eighth and Abbie McGuire ninth. Fillmore Central’s Grace Jacobsen was the individual champion to give the Panthers a third place finish. Wilber-Clatonia placed sixth in the team scoring.
Thayer Central dominated the boys with five of the top six finishers, led by first place for Aubrey Fangmeier. Trey Fischer, Keegan Casey, Dylan Fischer and Damian Stewart finished third through sixth with only a second place performance by Wilber-Clatonia’s Riley Wehrer stopping them from sweeping the top five.
Milford took second in the team standings with Devon Reitz taking 10th to lead them. Fairbury was third with Isaac Robertson their top performer in ninth place. Fillmore Central was the fourth place team with Wilber-Clatonia fifth.
