Fairbury American Legion Baseball Sweeps Bennet

FAIRBURY – The Fairbury American Legion baseball teams earned a Juniors-Seniors double-header sweep at home against Bennet on Wednesday night.

After a heartbreaking extra-inning loss to Marysville, Kansas on Tuesday, the Fairbury Seniors rebounded with an exciting 2-1 victory in extra innings at home over Bennet.

Marshall York singled home Tanner Novotny for the game-winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning to lift Fairbury to a dramatic victory.

Novotny had a game-high three hits for the Fairbury Seniors, who improved to 3-7 on the season.

Marshall York, Zach Holes and Andrew Novotny teamed up on the mound for Fairbury, holding Bennet to one run on six hits, while striking out nine batters.

Jacob Gramann suffered the loss in relief, and led Bennet at the plate with two hits, including a double.

The Fairbury Juniors stayed undefeated by overwhelming Bennet, 18-4.

Fairbury jumped out to ten-run lead in the first three innings, before securing the blowout win with eight-runs in the fourth inning.

Brody Kroll led Fairbury with three hits, two doubles, three runs scored and two RBI.  Carson York and Austin Novotny both had a pair of hits and scored twice, while Devin Wanamaker reached base four times, driving in a pair of runs and scoring three times for the Fairbury Juniors, who improved to 8-0 on the season.

For Bennet, Chase Dissmeyer had a double, RBI and run scored, while Nate Archer had hit and two RBI.
