CRETE – Diller-Odell senior Tyson Landenberger was one of 35 football players to sign with Doane University during National Signing Day on Wednesday.
Landenberger played running back and linebacker for the Griffins and led the team in tackles his senior year with 107 along with two interceptions and a fumble recovery.
Offensively he rushed for 360 yards and seven touchdowns and was the team’s third leading receiver with nine catches.
Doane had a couple of areas to address following the graduation of some key players from last year’s squad. This initial wave of recruits looks to have targeted wide receivers and tight ends where the Tigers lost four combined starters. The class also includes three quarterbacks as Doane looks to replace starter Jack Shadley and backup Trev Lovell who are both graduating.
“We’re excited at the early list of commits that we have on signing day,” Doane Head Coach Matt Franzen said. “We will continue our efforts following signing day, but we feel like we’ve addressed some immediate needs, signed some players who will compete to play early, and have successfully broadened our base to include some states that we haven’t yet tapped into.”
The signees come from 10 different states, including ten from Texas and eight from Nebraska. The full list of recruits can be found here.
